everyone wants PI on their law school application
UnwrittenOssifiedRoadrunner
15:58
But if you can write a good "here's why I think securities regulation is important and I want to learn about it" you'll stand out against all the "I want to be an international human rights lawyer"
babybunny
15:58
cuz it makes you sound like a “good person”
has any school ever calculated what % of applicants come in wanting to do PI vs what % of alumni end up in PI 5 years out of law school

I know it’s like 60 percent at nyu do bl and most probs say pi goin in

Does Columbia typically release all of their waitlists at once?

@CTCSH: girl the way i am scrubbing this site from my mind the second I give up on my WL wetdreams, re: "come to you next year"

@UnwrittenOssifiedRoadrunner: don’t think so
@SeanStrickland2024: to be fair a lot of people do big law right out of getting out of school and then go into PI once their finances stabilize
SeanStrickland2024
16:02
Lmao true but then a lot also get used to having money and then don’t leave
also true!

Personally I’m not working lawyer hours for 60k a year for “public interest”
a lot of BigLaw peeps also do significant pro bono fwiw
i knew an associate who spent a shit ton of her little free time doing restraining order applications with DV victims
some firms credit pro bono towards the hours requirement
UnwrittenOssifiedRoadrunner
16:04
most biglaw peeps ultimately go in house. It's the $/lifestyle compromise. Only a small fraction of those who start as associates end up partners
^^^
SeanStrickland2024
16:04
I’ll make partner at wachtell
16:04
i genuinely have no hate against people who do Big Law. I was just asking cuz I genuinely wouldnt know how to go about writing that essay. But then again, I have pretty much no interest in Big Law, possibly for a few years as others mentioned just to save up money
SeanStrickland2024
16:04
I’m built diff

A decent middle road to do good in the world without biglaw hours/morals is Gov
spit out my plant nugs
unless you end up with the feds you're gonna make a whole lot less with gov
16:05
DOJ honors with DC locality adjustment is $99K a year if you do a clerkship first
state and locals pays way less than fedgov
jk no thats valid
SeanStrickland2024
16:05
99k a year is ass also guck feds

16:06
For all the overly altruistic PI kids in here, a lot of big law firms have pro bono towards total hours and you can do "PI" for that (some allow a LOT of leeway when choosing these hours).
16:06
Make six figures more or less out of law school, see your family, get fed benefits. Could do a lot worse
it's pretty good for a stable 8-5 in the legal field tbh
