and then I remember I nearly die every time I eat fries at a place with fried shrimp -_-
19:54
cuz my allergy is pretty severe but i can still eat stuff with fish sauce/oyster sauce/kimchi but everyone is different
KoreanJesus
19:55
Also there are vegans and vegetarians in Korea, especially the Buddhist Koreans. They eat kimchi without shellfish. I personally also prefer it without shellfish since it tastes a bit more "fresh" without the fishy
KermitTheHermit
19:55
I LOVE Thai food but I have to tell them no oyster sauce or fish sauce (based on experience and one too many hospital trips). I also have to make sure they have a separate shellfish-free prep station
KermitTheHermit
19:55
it's a chore lmao
19:55
ahh okay yours might be a bit worse than mine. Have you ever traveled at all in asia?
KimchiQueen
19:55
A lot of my friends became vegan because of shellfish allergy and meat was expensive
19:56
if so, how? i'm always nervous as is and mine is a little less severe than yours
KermitTheHermit
19:56
@KoreanJesus: That's so cool, I had no idea! Thank you so much. I always love learning about new cultures and trying new foods, so this was awesome!
KoreanJesus
19:56
great to know! :)
KoreanJesus
19:56
You should all visit korea
KermitTheHermit
19:56
@crybaby2024: I've never traveled to Asia, no... born there though! (technically Middle East, but still)
KimchiQueen
19:56
Oh yes! I'm actually going there this summer before law school starts
19:57
@crybaby2024: Hi may I ask do you need negotiate with Cornell to get scholarship
KermitTheHermit
19:57
@KoreanJesus: I've been interested, but I get nervous and I'm not really sure which cities would be safe and fun to visit... any recs?
KoreanJesus
19:58
Seoul is generally safe
19:58
well if you ever do I recommend printing out allergy cards in the native language! it's saved my life a few times traveling Asia, and i've been all over. Everywhere Ive been people are really accommodatng and sensitive to it and will tell you no if they don't feel they can keep you safe. but the cards are nice cuz they can go and show the kitchen if need be vs. on your phone
19:58
@LuckyDog: i did not
19:58
Thank you, contragulations!
KimchiQueen
19:58
@KermitTheHermit: You can basically leave your laptop at a coffee shop or even your phone at a subway and you have a very high chance of getting your item returned instead of being stolen.
KoreanJesus
19:59
Oh yeah, especially the areas in Gangnam
KoreanJesus
19:59
Because of all the surveillance cameras
19:59
@crybaby2024: How long did you get scholarships after got off from wl?
19:59
immediately, it was in the initial email.
19:59
or offer email whatever
19:59
So nice
20:00
agreed!
20:00
loyola and cornell were both that way and michigan was also unprompted but like a week? after the admit email i think
KimchiQueen
20:00
@crybaby2024: Yes that's smart! I would definitely recommend learning the language, too, to avoid any misinterpretation.
KermitTheHermit
20:00
@crybaby2024: The allergy cards in native language is a fantastic idea!
