Does anyone have any info on Vandy's waitlist? Does anyone think they'll start accepting people off the waitlist this week/ next week?
20:13
@TruthTheX: I did not submit a LOCI or attend the info session, but received the feeler today. I just withdrew.
@TruthTheX: how do you know that many people received that email?
20:15
There goes my theory that only people that attended the WL info sessions recieved the feeler ty for the info Vibes!
20:15
I also was not on SPWL or PWL
20:15
Hope that helps!
20:16
Sorry Angel I have no idea how many received it, just that based on one single reddit poll, seems like half the SPWL (that responded to this one poll) and then a handful from the PWL and RWL got it. No data that one could extrapolate from. All I can say is the answer is not everyone
Okay got it. Thanks! I received it and thought it meant there was a spot for me so I’m disappointed that many people also received it. :(
if its the same "feeler" email i got, i didnt attend an info session or submit a LOCI and got one

Ijustwannagetinman
20:54
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Ijustwannagetinman
20:54
Im not in state though
MightyUnableSphinx
21:04
i wonder how much being in state plays in your favor
MightyUnableSphinx
21:04
i'm an california in state splitter so if I get ucla and ucb then probably it is in your favor a good amt
Ijustwannagetinman
21:09
Being in state probably helps
Ijustwannagetinman
21:09
But will they please let me in😭😭😭😭

UC Berkeley and UCLA both state on their websites that in-state status does not factor into their decisions
21:13
"Do in-state applicants have higher preference than those from out of state?" "You have an equivalent chance of being admitted regardless of your residency." https://www.law.berkeley.edu/admissions/jd/applying-for-jd-degree/faqs/#bb12-do-in-state-applicants-have-higher-preference-than-those-from-out-of-state-0
21:14
"Is preference given to California residents?" "Not at all. Although we receive the largest proportion of applications from California, we seek to admit and enroll a geographically diverse class each year. Admission decisions are not based on quotas, and the goal of the Law School Admissions Committee is to admit the most compelling and talented candidates into UCLA Law." https://law.ucla.edu/admissions/jd-admissions/frequently-asked-questions#:~:text=Our%20general%20advice%20is%20to,geographically%20diverse%20class%20each%20year.
21:14
Contrast with, for instance, UVA: "Although Virginia Law is not dependent upon the Commonwealth for its budget, we do give extra consideration to Virginia residents during the admissions process." https://www.law.virginia.edu/admissions/admissions/jd-admissions/faqs
21:19
To be very practical about the institutional interests in play, UC Berkeley and UCLA both get plenty of competitive applicants from CA and both want to have national reach and nationally competitive stats/rankings (which *disincentivizes* a strong preference for CA applicants)
21:20
More successfully in Berkeley's case, 64% of UCLA's class were California residents last fall

Jb I would pay to catalogue all of your information and make it into a FAQ for this site
Ijustwannagetinman
21:23
I wonder if that’s true though bc it seems like in state applicants have lower stats
Ijustwannagetinman
21:24
And they get decisions faster
21:26
They def give preference to in state apps
21:26
They’re both two of the most vibe/fit based schools. Naturally they prefer people more likely to matriculate

@KnowledgeableRitzyWasp: If the admins want to give me a blank canvas somewhere besides shoehorning ten pages into the wisdom section, I'll do it to kill time
