like set up a tent on some campus cool, but don't stop people from getting to work

Not just work. Blocking roads prevents people from getting to hospitals, from getting to parole hearings, from picking their child up from school... a lot of unintended consequences that can have seriously negative impacts
"hmmmm today i will obstruct the flow of emergency vehicles to prove a point. Why are people mad at me?"

@Ijustwannagetinman: Have you been to our campus? I go here and saw the students firsthand. The camp lawns were literally designated as spaces for student protests and mass gatherings. People have sat there, picnicked there, and historically have protested there. It is literally a space designed for communal activity. Arrests on a scale like yesterday have NEVER happened since 1968's anti-Vietnam War protests, which ironically have been glorified AFTER the protests happened and Columbia made it all about their institution's valuable history and evidence that they are devoted to "free speech and expression." Even the NYPD explicitly stated that all the protestors were peaceful and there was zero reported violence or injuries from the protests whatsoever. The arrests were so meaningless but were ordered by the President after her hearing by Republicans who literally used the BIBLE as justification for condemning anti-Israel protests. This was not like “Oh I wanna break some rules today be

Well to continue. Yesterday's protests were the result of mass censorship and the administration’s repeated changes in their protest/group activity policy in DIRECT response to any protests for Palestine. Nothing happened to pro-Israel protestors who did the exact same thing. The admin is extremely biased. They even hired private investigators to seek out any “suspicious” activities and communications among suspected pro-Palestinian students in their own dorm rooms, and specifically SUSPENDED students BEFORE arresting them so they can be labeled as trespassers on their own university grounds that they pay tuition for. They were given less than 15 minutes to pack up and leave their dorms for peacefully protesting, lost their student health insurance, and prevented them from returning to the lawn to pick up their OWN belongings that the admin confiscated. Student council members are picking up items on behalf of student protestors because these students can face repercussions (they can fa

(they can face suspensions if they haven’t been suspended yet for returning to get their own belongings). Also, the level of the admin's hypocrisy is INSANE when they never did anything to the IDF ex-solder who used a military-grade weapon on students that caused trips to the ER and mass hospitalizations.
