@Ijustwannagetinman: plenty of time for USC still
17:57
fingers crossed for good news coming ur way today
@HorseyMed: WHY
17:59
please list the things that would make columbia worth 150k over michigan
17:59
sorry, 100k
@AnxiousRaccoon: If you're willing to pay for Columbia, they'll give you a very slight leg up over Michigan for NYC. Note that the market Michigan places the most into is NYC as well though. If you want to stay in NYC and are willing to pay up, then yeah sure go to Columbia. But as far as "I want BigLaw in NYC" goes, you can get that from any T14 and much of the T20. Columbia only makes sense to pay up for if you are dead set on a Wachtell/Skadden/etc.
@TheKingInTheNorth: ty! i thought the same so im considering michigans culture/lower coa a lot more
18:09
Yeah NYC biglaw is the fallback outcome for most T14s
18:10
Didn't land a clerkship? There's always NYC biglaw
18:10
Couldn't land that DC/CA office? There's always NYC biglaw
18:10
do law schools ever send out decisions outside of business hours? like what're the odds of hearing after 5 pm
18:10
Struck out in unicorn PI recruitment? There's always NYC biglaw
it's strange because it's both the easiest thing to land and also the thing most students seem to want

18:11
no vandy today?
BensonSprintswads
18:11
columbia could also get you a federal clerkship more easily not to mention better shot at sc
KnowledgeableRitzyWasp
18:11
Columbia sends like 80% of it class to big law doesn’t it
18:12
yeah at this rate the biggest draw for CLS for me is FC
18:12
I'm sure there are a few people at T14s who have lousy grades *and* interview poorly, such that they can't land NYC biglaw, but anyone competitive for somewhat selective outcomes at a T14 should not have trouble landing NYC biglaw in a decent economy
also it's a personal choice at the end of the day. do you want CLS on your resume? don't make your decision JUST based on stats
18:13
why would a person not want CLS on their resume?
18:13
as opposed to a peer school, anyway
18:13
(If you hit OCI or graduate in the middle of Mega 2008, sure, all bets are off)
like I could see someone paying more for CLS over a school like mich just cause they want it on their resume (even if outcomes don't justify it)
18:14
OOOOOH right right
18:14
Or if they just want to join the Columbia Club that badly
is the name worth that much?
depends on the person. if they think so sure

18:15
Question: Barring academia, does a difference in outcomes with HYS make it worth sticker in comparison to the rest of the T14 in your minds?
18:15
And/or use the much-overhyped "Ivy League" label to impress other people who care too much about such things
